Day 49 Tahiti Beach

This morning, we decided to leave the Mooring ball at Hopetown and do a quick provision run at Vernon‘s grocery and then get some gas for the generator and the dinghy along with water, which is by the way 50 cents a gallon, which gives me a new  appreciation for water from the tap where it is so easy to get back home.  We made the 4 mile venture to Tahiti Beach, however, it happened to be low tide and it was super shallow so we creeped along, barely in gear  in case we hit the sand with the keel. Found a good sand spot to anchor at Tahiti Beach and we took the dinghy over to the Sandbar. We found this really really cool swingset on the sandbar that was submerged in 1 foot of water. Jessica had a difficult time, pulling herself up 3 feet to the swing, so I pulled the dinghy over and she could stand on the front of the dinghy and get right into the seat.  It reminded Jessica of swinging as a kid, saying “higher and higher” as I pushed her.  then we hung out on the beach and watched turtles swim by, so we had to put on our snorkel set and Jessica was able to swim wih a turtle for a bit.  Jessica challenged to keep up with the turtle because they are so fast in the water which is ironic compared to land turtles.  Jessica watched Alli on the beach while I snorkeled around and came back with four good sized conch. Then it was Jessica‘s turn and she saw some barracuda, puffer, fish, grouper, and she also found the conch bed with numerous juveniles. However, I was super surprised when she showed up back at the beach chairs with two nice size conchs in her hand. We came back to Methuselah and l watched a Yotube video on how to clean them. It was a little bit disappointing because we did not have a metal butter knife, but I did the best I could and we enjoyed conch salad with lime juice, orange juice, onions, green peppers, cucumbers. We used chips and treated it like a dip, and it was delicious.
