Day 116 A Cruiser’s paradise, George Town

No OSHA around these parts of the world.

Jessica and I woke up to listen to the 8 AM broadcast of the net on VHF channel 72. With 280 boats in this area of George Town, there are lots of activities and news for cruisers, such as us the weather and tide was discussed, along with people needing boat parts, and even two ladies who got laundry swapped in the laundromat needed to sort out the sheets to the correct owner. A volleyball match was initiated between the cruisers from Canada and the cruisers from America and Pickle Ball times were announced. Local vendors also indicated whether or not they would be playing the Super Bowl at their restaurant. All new cruisers to the area were asked to chime in and announce their arrival. Out of the four boats from Blackbeard Sailing Club, three of us arrived yesterday, so it was interesting for us all three to chime in and let the other 277 cruisers know that Blackbeards sailing club in North Carolina are represented well here in George Town. Jessica and I went to George Town Proper, which was a 3 mile dinghy ride due to the anchorage location that we are currently at, although we are moving to a mooring ball in two days. We walked the town and scoped out the grocery stores and our jaw dropped when we saw how nice the produce aisle looked. Jessica even found taco seasoning and ginger for upcoming recipes. We found a hole in the wall restaurant called Sonia‘s and Sonia prepared curry chicken and conch fritters for lunch. After about an hour in island time waiting for our curry chicken only one of the two meals arrived so we had to wait another hour. But we met fellow cruisers during the wait and had a good time chitchatting. In summary, George Town is very cruiser friendly and we believe that we will thoroughly enjoy our stay here.
