Day 143 The “Rat Pack” Hang Out

Today, Jessica did a deep clean of the head. I washed the boat since we have free water at this slip. Then we rode bikes and visited the hotel resort called the Sugar Beach Lodge that was a 1960s era famous resort and hotel. It hosted celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bridge Bardot, the “Rat Pack”,etc. Seems like it was a different world just 40 years ago as there were no police or law-enforcement to prevent drugs in the Bahamas. Yesterday, we snorkeled an airplane from a drug smuggler crash. We pedaled our way to the south end of Greay Harbour Cay and absolutely fell in love with the beach called Shark Creek beach. We walked on a sandbar what seemed like for miles.  

We came back to the marina, and did a load of laundry. This marina has ice so we treated ourselves to a piña colada mixed up with the blender on the boat. Is it just me, or do all the buttons on the blender do the same thing?

After nine months of planning and preparation, we finally left the dock today. Today is our two year wedding anniversary. Thanks to Chris for surprising us with coffee and donuts in the clubhouse this morning. Paul threw the dock lines on Methuselah, and Debbie and Chris took some pictures as we left Blackbeards. We will celebrate our anniversary on anchor in Beaufort tonight.

Day 3

  We got a good night sleep despite the gunfire from Camp Lejeune.     We woke up to beautiful sunny skies and we made our way with following winds and tides down to Wrightsville Beach where we met my good buddy Dennis at the dockside restaurant for a late lunch.    Picked up a Mooring ball at Carolina Beach and had a nice stroll on the boardwalk with Allie testing the bark collar….she wore out the battery!    We hope by the time we get to the Bahamas, she will be used to people and dogs in strange towns.

Day 2

  Left this morning from Beaufort with a cool motor down the intercoastal waterway past Swansboro and ended up anchoring in mile hammocks Bay at Camp Lejeune. At times the motoring got a little monotonous so we decided to play with the WebCam and get these    cute pictures.    Tomorrow, the weatherman promised us the sun!
