Day 183 A Forty Year Dream

Pick up spot.

Forty years ago, my parents took Kim and I to visit my Aunt and Uncle Debbie and Ray on their 40 ft sailboat moored in Urbana.  They had made a few winter sailing trips to the Bahamas. I remember being so intrigued by the fact that you could “comfortably” spend long periods of time on a sailboat, exploring distant lands. I remember being so amazed that a boat had births, a head, and a galley. A spark was ignited in my head that  eventually I could  do something like that one day. But my dream never involved being able to have an adventure like that with my soulmate. This trip has been a sincere dream come true that exceeded all expectations from 40 years ago.  Jessica and I met up with Debbie and Ray at the marina not far from their home here in Beaufort, South Carolina. They let us do laundry and took us to a PetSmart to stock up on dog food. They also took us to the Walmart and treated us to a dinner of Chinese food which we had been craving as well. The best part of the day was sitting on their back deck and sharing stories about their trip to the Bahamas and our trip to the Bahamas. We were so amazed at the places they went in the days with no GPS and sketchy charts. Similar to Jessica and my experience, as beautiful is the land and sea is in the Bahamas, the highlight was the people met along the way.

  2. Well words cannot express how much we have enjoyed this blog throughout your trip. We didn’t get to travel with Debbie and Ray via a blog so this has been awesome. We almost feel like we have been there. What a great idea that was and thank you so much for sharing your trip with us
Can’t wait to see you in person and give you 1000 hugs. Love you two so much, mom./aka Sheila
